Happiness Field Village Farmstay at Gubjithang in Punakha is a lovely standalone home in midst of fields and next to the river bank of po chhu. Guests reach the place over a suspension bridge or by following a footpath from Punakha Dzong. This place is wonderful for those who wish for a quiet refuge away from busy towns. The nangi aum, Aum Karma, has recently re-furbished the house and opened up for guests.
A huge garden with flowers and vegetables surrounds the charming stone house. The sitting area invites you to relax with cold drinks or tea, after long drives or intense sightseeing. This home is great for those with limited time and offers glimpses into everyday farm life. Aum Karma has cows, hens and vegetable fields. On demand she will prepare a hot stone bath.
From here you can walk along a pleasant footpath to Punakha Dzong and also undertake excursions into the surrounding forest. Aum Karma also offers bonfire facilities and camping for those who like it wildly romantic.
Thread dyeing workshops
Karma is a very experienced weaver and designer for go and kira patterns (she designed the 5th king’s coronation go!). Hence she also offers dyeing workshops with natural dye for her guests against an extra fee. She boils the ingredients on open fire, as is customary, until they get the color intensity she is looking for.
