Dechen Choenzom farmstay is a charming place in Bumthang. There are bedrooms in the main house but also in a little guesthouse that was originally constructed for the visiting extended family. Aum Dechen and her family are incredibly lovely people and their hospitality is unmatched. This is the perfect farmstay where you can immerse yourself in authentic Bhutanese lifestyle and experience generous hosting. Make sure that you take your meals in the kitchen of the main house together with the family.
The location offers a stunning view over Tang valley with Ogyen Choling Palace in the distance. Various hikes are possible in the region, plain or uphill, of which the ones to Ta Rimochen Lhakhang and Ogyen Choling palace are the easiest.
Make sure you get a taste of Aum Dechen’s home made ara, local moonshine, as it is famous in the region! Also you will certainly never feel hungry here because no matter who shows up, guests are treated with heartfelt warmth and they will never be allowed to leave with empty stomach,- or how the Bumthap say “with empty mouth”.
As one of our guests describes:
“Set among buckwheat fields, and boasting its own orchard, this peaceful farmhouse is the epitome of family hospitality. Dechen Choenzom and her husband Karma make you feel at home from the very beginning, and almost everything you eat and drink here is their own produce. A healthy appetite is essential, because Dechen is reluctant to allow you to skip a single meal, three per day, and helpings are generous! There is a small guesthouse at the back of the main building, with a comfortable sitting room and two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Hot water for a shower is provided by a large wood-burner sited on one corner of the guesthouse. You will soon feel like one of the family. If you prefer, you can also stay in one of the rooms in the main house.”(Paul Cowlan, U.K.)
